Is it possible to install a flow meter in a small Apstein net?

Generally spoken it is possible- however, it will not make much sense as the open diameter of the net would be reduced drastically and thus the calculated flow would be wrong.

Is it possible to use the same Apstein net with and without a cowl?

No. The construction of the net with and without cowl is different. The net without cowl has a sewed-in stainless steel ring while the net used with the cowl has no support.

What is the material the net bags are made of?

PA 6 or PA6.6

What does unscrewable net bucket mean?

The word “unscrewable might indeed lead to misunderstandings. In fact, the net bucket can be removed from the net – so it is detachable.

Is it possible to clean the net bucket in an ultra-sonic bath?

Yes, this could be done as long as no aggressive cleaning solutions are added to the bath. Add some mild detergent instead.

Is there a repair set for the net bucket and if so how do I use it?

Yes, a repair set with the corresponding mesh size can be purchased. You can find a separate installation for the procedure under the following link: linklinklinklink

Can I clean my net bag in a washing machine?

Yes, this is possible. Please use only mild laundry detergent and do not spin-dry or tumble it afterwards.

Is it possible to repair a net bag?

This is a bit depending on the type of damage and what has happened. As long as it is only an open seam, this most likely could be fixed. If the net bag is torn or there is a hole inside, an installed patch would have an influence on the flow through the bag. We do not recommend this type of repair.

Can you tailor a net according to my personal specifications?

We can offer a certain variation to our standard nets. Get in touch with our experts and discuss your project. Most likely, we will find a solution.

Can I operate a rosette PWS also on a wire or rope?

Yes, the design of the PWS bottles allows this.

Is it possible to use larger/ smaller bottles to an already existing rosette system?

To switch to smaller bottles is possible while an installation of larger bottles is only possible in certain cases.

Is it possible to install additional sensors to the Integrating Water Sampler IWS?

No. the design of the instrument does not allow it to add additional sensors.

Which separation fluids are used with the MPSS? Is it possible to operate with water only?

ZnCl2-solution: maximum solution density of approx. 1800 kg/m³ or Sodium Polytungstate: maximum solution density of approx. 2500 kg/m³. Water only will not work as the density of water is too close to the density of the plastic particles you want to separate.

Can I order the required MPSS separation fluid at Hydro-Bios?

No. The corresponding fluid has to be ordered at your local chemical supplier.

What is the regular maintenance required for your equipment?

This cannot be answered in general terms as this is significantly depending on the instrument. Generally ropes, shackles, bridles and so on should be inspected before use. Most important is to clean the equipment with fresh water after it has been in use. Which advices do you have for the maintenance of the underwater connectors? As we use SubConn underwater connectors with our instruments, we recommend to act according to the handling instructions issued from SubConn:

How often the O-Rings of the instruments need to be changed?

As the O-Rings in our instruments are no wear parts, we recommend not to change them on a regularly basis. However, when an instrument comes back to our facilities for service, maintenance or modification, we will take care for an exchange.

Which recommendations for storage and maintenance of the rechargeable batteries installed in your instruments do you have?

We recommend to disconnect the batteries from the electronics when the equipment is foreseeable not used for a longer period (more than six months). Ideally the batteries should have a charge status of approx. 80%.

Do you offer training courses for your equipment?

Yes, we do. This either can be done at Hydro-Bios or – against costs- at customer´s location.

Do your prices include the shipping costs?

No. Shipping costs are shown separately and they vary in a wide range, depending on the equipment. Devices being packed in a carton can be shipped with UPS and we are just charging the UPS costs. Other devices (e.g. Rosette System) requires a strong and large wooden box and the packing procedure takes its time. So in this case we are charging the costs for the box as well as the time for the packing which might easily take one hour. The transport costs from the forwarder will be added and this might vary from country to country.

Are there standard delivery times for your equipment?

We aim to deliver Apstein nets with a standard mesh size within a week from date of order. Large systems as Multi Nets or Multi Waster Sampler usually have a delivery time of 10-12 weeks. Most accessories for plankton examination could be delivered directly from stock.

How can I pay?

We accept only wire transfer. In case you are a new client, we would insist for payment in advance for the first project. Later this can be changed to “30 days net after receipt of invoice”.

Can I clean the transparent parts of your devices with alcohol?

No! Alcohol will destroy the acrylic parts very soon.

How often is a recalibration of C-, T- and D-Sensor required?

C- and T-sensor should be recalibrated approx. each three years (depending on how often it is used). The D-sensor is much more stable and requires a recalibration each 10 years.

Do you offer also heavier winches as the ones in your catalogue?

No. We are not a specialist for the manufacturing of winches.

How long is the standard warranty period for your products?

The standard warranty period is 12 months. However it can be extended to in total 24 months against extra costs. Please note that some parts (e.g. net material) are explicitly excluded from warranty.

How long are spare parts available?

This in fact is not predictable for each product. Especially instruments containing electronics are subject to change due to discontinued integrated circuits. For mechanical parts we aim for an availability of more than ten years.
